Jonathan Melin is a Senior Scientist at UCB in Braine l’Alleud, Belgium. UCB is a global biopharmaceutical company which focuses on neurological and immunological diseases. Jonathan Melin works in the field of CNS discovery research, where he leads early phase drug discovery projects, manages academic collaborations, establishes screening assays and investigates novel drug targets. He earned his Master’s degree in Molecular Biology at the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) in Göttingen. Afterwards he completed his PhD on mitochondria import at the University of Göttingen Medical School in the laboratory of Prof. Rehling in 2014. Since then, he is working at UCB.
In his presentation, Jonathan Melin will talk about the transition from academic research to industry and his experiences with this step. He will also give further insight into the requirements, challenges and tasks of a scientist at a pharmaceutical company.
